Yes — especially if you can choose your surf days. Da Nang has accessible sandy beach breaks and conditions for different experience levels. Surf is seasonal and changes from day to day, so give yourself several days rather than counting on one fixed date.
Main surf season
November through March is the main surf period, although the first seasonal swells can arrive in September and October.

Most surfing around Da Nang takes place on sandy beach breaks, where surfable peaks shift as the sandbanks change.
For beginners
Suitable days can occur throughout the year. Look for manageable whitewater, a suitable beach section and enough space to practise.
For independent surfers
Check the swell, wind and tide, then look at the waves and sandbanks before choosing where to paddle out.

Is Da Nang good for beginner surfers?
Yes, when the conditions near shore are manageable. Season and forecast wave height alone do not tell you whether a day is suitable for a first session.
Check the beach section, the strength of the whitewater, the wind and whether the water is pushing surfers sideways.

When is the best time to surf in Da Nang?
The main surf season in Da Nang runs roughly from November through March. The first seasonal swells can arrive in September or October, and occasional surfable days continue into April. Beginners need manageable conditions near shore; independent surfers generally have more options during the main season.

Where to surf in Da Nang
My Khe is Da Nang’s main surfing area, but it is a long stretch of beach rather than one fixed surf spot. The best section to surf can shift as swell and storms reshape the sandbanks.
A section with a clean peak today may be flat or closing out a few days later. Beginners usually need manageable whitewater, an easy entry and enough space. More experienced surfers may look for faster or more exposed peaks when conditions allow.

Reading the waves
What are the waves like in Da Nang?
There is no single type of wave in Da Nang. Along the same sandy coastline, you can find gentle whitewater, peaks with an open face, fast sections and waves that close out all at once — sometimes only a short distance apart.

Can work for a first session when the waves are manageable and there is little sideways drift.

The wave begins breaking in one place and leaves an open face to ride.
Waves that close out all at once
Most of the wave breaks along one line, leaving little open face even when the waves have size.
Waves on an outer sandbank
Waves may also break farther from shore. Bigger and farther out does not always mean better surfing.
Watch several sets before going in. Look for a peak that repeatedly leaves an open shoulder, rather than judging the beach by the biggest wave you see.
Before you paddle out
A few local checks before entering the water
Wave size is only part of the picture. At Da Nang’s beaches, check restrictions, people and obstacles near shore, water flowing out after rain, and where you can return to the beach.
Flags & warnings
Check posted flags and signs, and follow lifeguard instructions. Restrictions can change with the conditions.
Swimming zones & obstacles
Look for swimming areas, ropes and buoys. Allow for waves and sideways drift when keeping clear of them.
After heavy rain
Stay clear of drains and outflows. If runoff is visible, choose another section of beach.
Choose an exit point
Before entering, identify a clear place to come back ashore, away from ropes, swimmers and hard obstacles.
Watch several sets. If you cannot see a clear way in and back out, move to another section or wait.
Keep checking your position. A fixed landmark on shore can help you notice sideways drift.
